Spinal

Spinal

This mobile came after Dots descending. I was looking for a little bit more freedom of movement as well as something to lead the eye a little bit more. In some ways I was thinking of Mondrian, the way his paintings make your eye wander, yet they had weight, a solidity that grounded the entire canvas.

What I wanted was something that would make you want to look up and down and through the mobile. I think Spinal does this very well. Instantly, my eye wants to trace it through the double dots in the center, yet there are medium circles just a bit further out. Then the big circles, sometimes concentrated, orbit all of it. The result is wanting to trace the interior but being drawn outward, sometimes to the far distance by the larger orbiting circles.

Lines of wire, Dots, surrounded by circles, surrounded by more and bigger and denser Circles.
